RECYCLING ARRANGEMENTS
Those homes that can take green wheelie bins should now have them. Some properties have requested alternative collection points - mainly due to access and these are being looked into. Otherwise fortnightly house by house collections are envisaged as appropriate. Any queries, ring Hereford Council 01432 260051 and ask for 'Recycling'. The contact name is Mr Kenton Vigus.
The green wheelie bins are collected fortnightly and Hereford Council have issued everyone with a calendar to remind them of collection dates. However, if you lose your calendar, you can enter your postcode into the following web page to find out when your collections are due: http://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/environment/rubbish_and_recycling/refusecollection.aspx
You can place all your recycleable material in the green wheelie bin together. Yes! Paper and card, flattened, tins, bottles and all recycleable plastics. No black plastic however. The contents of the wheelie bins will be sorted in a new state-of-the-art facility. Visit http://www.envirosort.co.uk/ if you want to find out more about how this is done.
Text message reminder service for your recycling collection day
If you forget your collection day why not take advantage of the free text messaging service. All you need to do is text "hcrecycle", your postcode and first line of your address to 80800 and you will receive a text the evening before your recycling is due to be collected.
RUBBISH . . . REDUCE, RE-USE, RECYCLE IF YOU CAN
Refuse collection (non-recycling) service takes place early on Wednesdays (with the exception of a few properties who have their collection early on Thursdays). A black refuse bag is provided at the time of the collection. For Bank Holidays, see the information on the black bags, also advertisements in local press or radio. You can also contact Herefordshire Council on 01432 260992 or info@herefordshire.gov.uk.
Garden Refuse should be placed in special green sacks which can be purchased at 60p from Herefordshire Council, Swan House, Edde Cross Street, Ross on Wye.
Batteries Morrisons in Ross and Waitrose in Monmouth have household battery recycling bins.
Aluminium Foil Clean foil can be recycled in a wheeled bin outside the old weighbridge building to the right of Morrisons.
Recycling using the School's Morgie Bee Bin This bin, situated in the school car park, can be used for recycling clothing. The clothes are sent to less economically developed countries where they are put to good use. The school receives a small monetary return for the amount of clothing that is recycled.
